Diary of Edward S. Foster, born in Verona, N.Y., who enlisted in the 117th New York Volunteer Infantry on Aug. 5, 1862. Includes entries written at: Camp Morris, Md.; Fort Franklin, Md.; Camp Huntington; Fort Baker, D.C.; camp at Calhouns Point, Va.; Yorktown; and camp at Julians Creek, Va. The second telegraph form includes notification of Foster's death on July 22, 1863, with text: "All is over don't come. What shall be done with body. Answer immediately. Pollard."
